Karachi: City’s 1st rental power plant inaugurated
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated Wednesday the first rental power plant (RPP) of the city installed by the Karachi Electric Supply Company in Haroonabad, SITE.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shah appreciated the KESC’s efforts for providing uninterrupted power supply to the SITE area. Power supply problems in industrial areas cause economic problems and add to the unemployment, he added. KESC CEO Tabish Gauhar said the inauguration of the 25-megawatt Aggreko Rental Plant reflected the management’s ongoing commitment to add more generation capacity to the utility’s network. He said the opening of 40MVA Grid Station in Memon Goth and the Integrated Business Centre (IBC) in Defence also demonstrated the KESC’s efforts towards strengthening the transmission network and improvement of customer service and quality. The KESC is in active discussion with General Electric of USA and High Mark Energy of Canada to explore the use of biogas from waste product for electricity generation, he said. Six new grid stations had already been constructed and another three were due to be completed by the third quarter of this year that would relieve the load on the existing grid stations and serve new customers, he added. Gauhar said the KESC had also been revamping the distribution infrastructure across the 18 towns of the city under a Rs 2.5 billion model town project due to be completed this year. To improve and provide one-stop solutions to the customers, three IBCs have been launched - one each in North Nazimabad, Gulshan and Defence, he also said and added that by the end of this year, 25 new IBCs would be launched. staff report http://dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?pag...010_pg12_4 |
