US working with, not dictating Pakistan, says Holbrooke
WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s anti-militancy actions have improved its image in the US and the Obama administration is pursuing a cooperative relationship with the regional ally and not dictating to Islamabad, US special envoy Richard Holbrooke said on Tuesday. “Now we are listening to Pakistan,” Holbrooke said. He said the US-Pakistan relationship was getting “stronger and stronger”. At a joint press briefing with Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, he said, “We felt it is time to move from trilateral to bilateral relationship.” The US special envoy said Washington had changed the aid programmes. He said, the US will help Pakistan in energy and water programmes”. Bashir said both countries were working hard towards “not a donor-recipient relationship, but a long long-term engagement”. app
