ISLAMABAD – Expressing confidence over Redistributive Land Reforms Bill 2010, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Tuesday viewed that the bill would bring about a revolution in the country as poor people might not be able to get their rights as long as the feudal system continued.
Addressing a press conference, MQM senior leader, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr. Muhammad Farooq Sattar termed the feudal system as evil in the country and said it needed to be eliminated. To a question, Farooq Sattar said that they were aware of tough circumstances for the party and its chief Altaf Hussain after the introduction of the Bill. However, he remained confident in saying that MQM would not step back from its stance. Party would continue its effort for the poor people of country, the MQM leader said. Expressing hope and confidence over submitting the bill, Farooq Sattar said that all the political parties would join hands in passing the bill. “We have submitted bill with open mind and heart,” he said. Giving reason behind the submission of the bill, he said that the main objective was to reduce the disparity of income between the rich landlords and the poor of the country. MQM leader further elaborated that it would help in maximising the output of agricultural produce by intensive cultivation and through cooperative farming. He said that earlier efforts were made for land reforms in 1959, 1972 and 1977 however the process was halted due to different reasons. He said that the main objectives of the bill are that the Government will vacate the huge land and will distribute this land to the victim farmers.
