LAHORE: Shahbaz approves launch of Aashiyana Housing Scheme
Punjab CM says anti-encroachment drive is in full swing in provincial capital, yielding positive results
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has granted approval to the launching of Aashiyana Housing Schemes for low-income families in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhelum and Sahiwal on the pattern of Lahore and directed to start work on these schemes as early as possible. He was presiding over a meeting regarding the Aashiyana Housing Project on Tuesday. Punjab Land Development Company Chairman Sheikh Alauddin, MNA Abid Sher Ali, MPAs Shehzadi Umerzadi Tiwana, Chaudhry Abdul Razaq Dhillon, Board of Revenue senior member, Planning and Development chairman, commissioners and district coordination officers of Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Sahiwal were also present on the occasion. The chief minister said that Aashiyana Housing Scheme for low-income families has been initiated for the first time in the history of the country, which is a revolutionary welfare project of the Punjab government and an important step towards transforming the country in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. He said that the Aashiyana Housing Scheme was a coordinated project and houses were being constructed for the poor at a high value land near the cities. Separately, while presiding over a meeting to review anti-encroachment drive in the provincial capital on Tuesday, Shahbaz said that anti-encroachment drive was in full swing in the city and was yielding positive results. He said that people not only have heaved a sigh of relief and the flow of traffic has improved but state land worth billions of rupees has also been recovered. He directed that the campaign against encroachments should be continued without any discrimination and should be completed within a month. He said that after Lahore, an anti-encroachment campaign would also be started in other districts of the province. Members National and Provincial Assembly Marghoob Ahmed, Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, Hafiz Nauman, Lahore commissioner and district coordination officer, Lahore Development Authority director general, DIG (Operations) and officers concerned were present. Lahore District Coordination Officer (DCO), Ahad Cheema, gave a detailed briefing regarding the campaign. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that encroachments have spoiled the beauty of cities and have not only caused problems to the people but have also hindered the flow of traffic. He said that anti-encroachment campaign has been started for the benefit of the people and restoring beauty of the cities. Separately, the Punjab chief minister presided over a meeting to review the pace of progress of the Kalma Chowk Flyover Project on Tuesday. Shahbaz directed that the Kalma Chowk Flyover Project should be completed by August 14. He also directed that work on the Multan Road and Bhatta Chowk should be further accelerated and construction work should be undertaken round the clock for an early completion of the project. He said that he would personally review the pace of implementation of Kalma Chowk Flyover Project on weekly basis. He also issued instructions for maximum tree plantation for the beautification of development projects and for the provision of a better atmosphere to the people.
