LG system to be restored across Sindh
Karachi—The leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh has decided to restore Local Bodies System across Sindh province.
According to reports, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has given approval for restoration of Local Government Ordinance 2001 across the province. Now request will be made to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval of the Ordinance. In this connection, meetings were held Sunday night at the residences of Faryal Talpur and Pir Mazharul Haq in Karachi to discuss the matter. Federal Law Minister Mola Bakhsh Chandio while talking to newsmen said the decision has been taken to save Sindh province from division. He said though it is an unpopular decision, yet it will have a positive impact in the long run. Reports further said President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the Sindh leadership of the Party to Islamabad to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, an important meeting has been convened at Governor House in Karachi to review the matter. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Secretary Law, Sindh province will also attend the meeting. Sindh nationalist parties have raised their concerns over the restoration of Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001 and announced to observe shutter down strike all over the province. Addressing press conference in Hyderabad, Awami Tehreek chief Ayaz Lateef Paleejo accused Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government of playing politics at the expense of Sindh’s interests. He noted that now PPP is neither a party of Sindh nor of Pakistan it is following the policy of General Zia and Musharraf. In Karachi, President Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST) Dr Safdar Sarki also announced to observe a shutter down strike. Dr Sarki demanded that the ordinance which has divided the province over administrative basis be taken back. JST leader addressed the media at Karachi Press Club (KPC). He pointed out that by issuing this ordinance Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) tried to divide the province, which is condemnable. The Awami National Party, Sindh, on Sunday, while rejecting the restoration of Local Government system in Karachi and Hyderabad, stopped Sindh Minister for Labour, Amir Nawab from performing his responsibilities in protest. Addressing a press conference at Mardan House here on Sunday, the provincial President of ANP, Shahi Syed said that Karachi and Hyderabad are parts of Sindh and separate system for Karachi and Hyderabad are not acceptable. He said that they have reservations over the repealing of Commissionrate System and restoration of LG system. He said that PPP forgets that ANP is its ally but it has been continuously ignored. |
