Computerised passports required for haj 2009: ministry

ISLAMABAD: The Saudi government has made the machine-readable passport (MRP) mandatory for haj 2009, said a Religious Affairs Ministry spokesman on Tuesday. The ministry has urged all intending pilgrims to get their MRPs from their regional passport offices. He said the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports and the National Bank of Pakistan had made arrangements to help the pilgrims in this regard. The spokesman said NADRA mobile units would be on hand in remote areas. staff report
