Tareen to take oath as finance minister today
ISLAMABAD: Finance Adviser Shaukat Tareen has returned to the Senate uncontested in by-election of the Upper House against a seat reserved for ulemas and technocrats from Sindh, an official notice said on Wednesday.
The seat had been vacated by Dr Javed Leghari. Tareen will take oath as federal minister for finance today (Thursday). Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was holding the portfolio until now. According to the notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, Tareen would continue as senator for the remaining term of Leghari, which would expire on March 11, 2012. Tareen’s election as senator and his induction as the finance minister would remove issues that bar an un-elected person from chairing meetings of the reconstituted National Finance Commission. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_13 |
