‘Catch a Chain’ – the new theatre hit!
* Guest says background music gave a realistic touch to the play
* Another says entire play was performed on single set; didn’t bother viewers as story, acting, lighting gripped audience Staff Report LAHORE: ‘Catch a Chain’, a theatre play produced by B-Theatre, was showcased at the Ali Institute of Education and drew a deafening response and whistles from the audience. The play, comprising two acts, was set in a prison at an undisclosed location. The story revolves around three prisoners, joined by a fourth one later. They have been in jail for several years awaiting their verdicts. The plot focused on how different people react to change in confinement and how the ‘system’ controlling them chooses to deal with the influx of new criminals into the already overflowing jails. The story depicted the desperate jailbirds regretting their crimes, but at the same time, they are trying to seek happiness in little details of life, such as smoking and reading. They are kept on their toes by an attractive female warden, who wants to get rid of them, as they had been there for very long, and also because their ministry concerned was about to send more inmates to the jail. The performance of the three inmates, out of which one is black and has been in the jail for the longest time, was really appreciated by the audience. “The actors used little background music, which really gave a realistic touch to the whole play,” said Sania Khan, one of the spectators. “Their acting was remarkable and the scenes seemed very genuine as if the three men were actually in a jail in front of us. This is certainly one of the best plays I have seen in my life,” she added. Gripping: Another guest, Salman Zahid, said the artists gave a bold and detailed account of the life of inmates in a funny and simple way. They performed the entire play on a single set, but it did not bother the viewers because the story, acting and the lighting had gripped the audience, he added. The cast of the play included Omair Nazir, Waleed Akhtar, Awais Azhar, Ghazal Tahir, Reesham Naqvi, Hashim Imran, Umar Butt, Umer Jamshed, Hassan Rasheed and Fatima Tu Zara. |
