Lack of parking facilities emerges as one of Islamabad’s main problems

Islamabad: Parking facilities in the commercial areas of the federal capital have always been a matter of concern but the phenomena is heading for a point of no return. Lack of parking facilities in the commercial areas of Karachi Company, Peshawar Morr, Jinnah Super, Blue Area, Aabpara and Melody are becoming problematic for the commuters by the day. People who come for shopping in these areas have to wait for hours to park their vehicles.

The largest commercial markets of Karachi Company, Peshawar Morr, Blue Area, Melody and Jinnah Super lack appropriate parking places for cars and other four-wheelers because the parking slots in these areas are always packed with motorbikes. This also creates many troubles for the pedestrians. The situation has especially worsened as the number of people going for Ramazan shopping has increased. The situation will further worsen close to Eidul Fitr.

Shopkeepers of the Karachi Company area told Daily Times that due to lack of proper parking places they have to park their vehicles far away from their shops. “This remains a matter of fear for us during the entire day,” Abdul Samad, a businessman, said. He said that due to the extraordinary rush (business activity) during the holy month of Ramazan, it takes him hours to find a proper parking space near his shop. He said the city government has turned a deaf ear to the issue.

Assad Noor, a student from Islamabad, told Daily Times that lack of parking places in the commercial markets is becoming one of the biggest issues of the federal capital. He said, “After parking his/her vehicle, one remains concerned about the safety and security of their vehicle.”

Shopkeepers, businessmen, stallholders and commuters of the federal capital have appealed to the authorities concerned to solve the issue of vehicle parking on immediate basis.
