Unmarked police vehicles to fight crime
ISLAMABAD: National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) plans to put on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-1) unmarked vehicles with armed plainclothes men aboard to fight crime, it’s learnt. A Communications Ministry official said that two policemen would be on board each vehicle. He said two officers in a vehicle currently patrolled every 10 to 13 kilometers of the 4,000km Motorway. He said there’re over 50 illegal entry points to M-1 and National Highway Authority (NHA) workers were busy fencing them. He said the NHMP had already requested the NHA for early completion of the work. The official said broken fences let criminals flee after committing a crime on Motorway. He said the NH&MP’s decision to put unmarked vehicles on the M-1 came in response to numerous complaints of robbery by motorists. He said the move would drastically cut down crime on the M-1 and give people a safe environment to travel in. He said the ministry should dole out more funds to the NH&MP for crime control. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...008_pg11_6 |
