SC summons LDA officials
ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Supreme Court Friday directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to apprise it of the issue of demolition of high-rise buildings allegedly constructed illegally in the provincial metropolis.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal adjourned the hearing of the case till February 14. The bench put off hearing of a plea filed by the Association of Builders and Developers through Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan. The bench said it would first go through the entire relevant record. Aitzaz Ahsan contended that the Authority was demolishing high-rise buildings claiming that the apex court had issued a direction for this whereas there was no such direction in the field. He said the Supreme Court came to know about the issue of high-rise buildings after Farooq Hameed, a resident of Lahore, moved the court against damage caused to his residence during construction of a Boulevard. In fact the Supreme Court had issued a direction for formation of a Commission to look into the whole matter, he said. The counsel said they were not opposing demolition of any dangerous building but the question arose whether there was any judicial order in the field. He said globally the trend for high-rise buildings was being encouraged but here LDA was on a rampage without serving notices and following laws. |
