Lahore Bar to challange land sale/rent to Americans, farmland sale to foreigners
LHCBA to take up sale of land to Americans
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 By Our Correspondent LAHORE A GENERAL house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association will take up a requisition on Tuesday (today) against alleged sale of 18 acres land within diplomatic enclave and renting out 200 houses to Americans in Islamabad. The requisition was moved by Barrister Zafarullah Khan stating that the land was being given to the US embassy would be used as airbase which would house more than 5, 000 civilians and marines with all sophisticated weaponry and they were specialist in commando operations. The requisition further condemned the intended sale or lease of Pakistani agricultural 7,00,000 acres land to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar for production of food. It said, in fact, the land was being acquired by Arabs who were serving as front men by Americans who would eventually use the land for possible military bases, because Arabs had been front men in the bid to purchase the Pakistan Steel Mills for an Indian businessman. The requisition said that there could not be any compromise on the country’s sovereignty and violations of fundamental rights of citizens. Barrister Zafar demanded the government immediately undo its anti-state decisions and restrain from leasing out land to foreign parties. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=198550 |
