* CDA chief says Sector D-12 issue resolved, allotment letters being issued to G-14, I-16 allottees

By Fazal Sher

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete all development projects according to the international standard and build more hotels in the city to attract foreign investment.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rs 735 million Lehtrar Road Phase-II, the prime minister directed the authority to complete the development projects on time and according to the international standards. He also directed construction of more big hotels to attract foreign investment. He said there was need to have education city, IT Park and Traders Spots to generate employment.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, Minister for Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan, Chairman CDA Imtiaz Inayat Elahi and other senior official were present on the occasion.
Gilani also directed the authority to stop irregular development in Zone-IV as well as in the other parts of the city and provide basic facilities to the residents of katchi abadis. He further directed the authority to speed up work on its project of green and clean Islamabad and make the city more beautiful. He emphasized the need for launching new residential sectors to solve the growing accommodation problems in the city.
Imtiaz Inayat Elahi said that the eight-kilometer dual carriageway stretching from Taramri Chwok to PINSTECH would play an important role in the solution of the rising traffic problem.

The project, he said, would go a long way towards facilitating the residents of Lehtrar, Nilor, Kahuta, Alipur Farash, Simly Dam and PINSTECH and those bound for Murree and Bagh and Rawlakot districts of Azad Kashmir.

Elahi said that the six-lane dual carriageway would be completed within 18 months ending on December 2010.

According to a survey conducted by the CDA, traffic has reached around 8,250 vehicles per day on Lehtrar Road, he said. He said in the past the CDA ran its affair by selling its assets but now it had decided to do away with this approach. He said better management of the finances could improve the financial position of the authority and in this regard it had devised both long and short-term plans.
Elahi said that to incorporate the ideas of citizens in development projects and improve coordination with them, the authority had established sector citizen committees. He said under the Clean and Green Islamabad Project, the authority would plant 30 saplings in place of a tree removed during the execution of any development project. In addition, he said, work on a proper sanitary landfill would also be initiated shortly to counter pollution.
Elahi said that the authority would soon launch nine new residential sectors. The authority has also resolved the issue of the much-delayed development of Sector D-12 and allotment letters would soon be handed over to the allottees. He said possession was also being given to the allottees of Sectors I-14 and I-16 while tenders had been floated on the international market for bidding to develop Sector I-15.
