He said they were in the process to complete some pre-structure formalities to initiate the construction work. He said tender for the project had been finalised after administrative approval of Finance Department, Government of Punjab and bids had been called for resident supervision of the project. “The parking plaza would be located in the heart of the city on the crossing of Liaquat and Jinnah roads near Fowara Chowk where currently a van station exists,” said Shahbaz. The plaza spread over 4.5 kanals of land will have five stories and basement and it will cost Rs 400 million, he added. The RDA DG said the plaza would have the capacity to accommodate 500 vehicles at a time. RDA has released Rs 80 million to kick off the first phase of the project, which will take approximately two years to complete, he said, adding, the first phase will cost Rs 190 million in which basement and two stories of the plaza with parking capacity of 250 to 300 vehicles would be completed. The DG said the van station would be shifted to some other suitable place during the construction work, but after completion of the plaza the van station would be accommodated within the limits of parking plaza. |
