Nawaz, Shahbaz take up Centre’s response
LAHORE - The Sharifs met at Raiwind on Friday to take up their concerns over the non-responsive attitude of the federal government in reply to a letter the Punjab government wrote seeking details on Raymond Davis.
The letter had also sought the Centre’s influence over the US embassy to allow the custody of the car and driver of the US Consulate Lahore that ran over a motorcyclist in the Lahore incident. The Sharif Brothers also discussed the PPP’s 19-point agenda. They also shared views on the ascending skepticism that plan was afoot to grant immunity to Davis under US pressure. However, both PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif felt content over the role of the Punjab Police in dealing with the sensitive issue. According to reliable sources, the PML-N is likely to summon a party meeting to take stock of the progress on the investigation and the federal government’s conduct. The Sharif brothers reiterated that neither the PML-N nor the Punjab government would give in to pressure by the US for Davis’ release. They observed that the court had the final authority to decide the fate of US national. The sources said the meeting also deliberated on the 19-point agenda issued by PPP senior leader Raja Raiz. A PML-N senior leader told Pakistan Today that the party had not received the PPP agenda in black and white. He said it was unfortunate that those who criticised the Punjab government were part of the cabinet. Meanwhile, police investigators have collected valuable evidence against Raymond Davis. The investigators have recorded statement of a local restaurant owner and an 11-year-old boy who saw the shootings. It was also learnt that investigators have forwarded initial interrogations report to the Punjab government. |
