Lahore - Plans are under way to set up the Dispute Resolution Centre in Lahore under the Alternate Dispute Resolution Project being financed and executed by the International Finance Corporation (Pakistan), a subsidiary of the World Bank.
An indication to this effect was given by IFC Pakistan’s ADR Associate Operations Officer Ms Saima Zuberi and Mr Isfandyar Ali Khan while talking to the media people here. Chief Executive Officer New World Concepts Karachi ms Yasmin Hyder and Director Karachi Centre for Dispute Resolution Dr Zafar Ahmad Khan Sherwani were also present on the occasion. They said that the plans are well in advanced stage in this regard and announcement for setting up of the Dispute Resolution Centre at Lahore will be made in due course of time so that the people of Lahore as well as adjoining districts of the Punjab province could avail the services and advice for resolving the disputes through mediation and thus minimizing the burdensome procedure of litigation to the maximum extent possible. They said that the Centre for Dispute Resolution under the Alternate Dispute Resolution Project was set up in Karachi in 2007 and its successful working there had encouraged the IFC Pakistan to undertake plans for setting up a similar centre in Lahore . Director Karachi Centre for Dispute Resolution Dr Zafar Ahmad Khan Sherwani told the newsmen that after being set up in 2007, the Centre has been able to create awareness among more than 2000 people through different events and courses for resolving their disputes through mediation amicably. He said more than 1500 cases have been settled during the period under report through the efforts of the Centre under the Alternate Dispute Resolution Project which is being financed and executed by the IFC in a phased manner in Pakistan. |
