Australian traders see Punjab as attractive investment region

LAHORE: Australian investors observed Punjab province as an attractive investment destination when a delegation of Australian Trade Commission, of Australian government, visited the office of Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) here on Friday.

The delegation, comprising Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, South Asia Australian Trade Commission, Brothers P/L Fruit processing and Juicing Company based in South Australia, COO, Enshaa PSC and CEO Tall Trees Hotel UK met PBIT’s high-level officials and secretaries of government of the Punjab. The delegates shared their interest in developing economic collaboration with Punjab in the agriculture, iron ore extraction and energy sector.

The delegates also specified their interest in corporate farming, beef/sheep farming, Halal meat project, value addition in citrus and mango; juicing and processing for exports as well as investing in coal fired power plants and power stations at major canal systems in Punjab. They further added that Australia holds expertise in iron ore extraction and citrus farming and that they are willing to undertake vocational training of the people of Pakistan in these two sectors as well as others sectors identified by the government of the Punjab.

PBIT Vice Chairman Dr Miftah Ismail briefed the delegates regarding incentives and opportunities that Punjab offers to cater their interest and said Punjab presents the safest investment choice in the region backed by government’s investment friendly policies .He also explained about PBIT’s facilitation services that aim to go extra mile to satisfy the need of national and international investors. International Operations Growth and Emerging Markets, Australian Trade Commission GM David Landers said that Punjab was rich with natural resources and minerals. The Australian investors and business class would like to develop these resources for the people of Punjab and would like to continue interactions to reach mutually beneficial agreements with the government of the Punjab in times to come. staff report
