The Traffic Planning and Engineering Agency to construct five underpasses, 2 flyovers

LAHORE - The Traffic Planning and Engineering Agency (TEPA) has planned to construct next year five underpasses, two flyovers and two pedestrian bridges costing Rs 3 billion to improve traffic flow at 20 bottlenecks in the City. The TEPA has started preparing feasibility reports to submit them to the planning and development department to seek their formal approval. The initiative has been taken on the directions of Punjab chief minister to improve means of communication, ease traffic load and revise traffic management in the provincial metropolis.
The underpasses have been proposed at Ghari Shahu, Shalimar Link Road, Minar-e-Pakistan, Mazang Chungi and PECO Road. The pedestrian bridge will be built at Main Boulevard, Gulberg, in front of PACE Shopping Plaza and Chuna Mandi Girls College wile the flyovers will be constructed at Suddran Bypass and Hussain Chowk.
The project is part of various projects of infrastructure development in the city that will open new avenues of economic development.
TEPA spokesman said that better means of communication play an important role in traffic management, provision of civic amenities to the citizens and economic uplift. So the government was spending huge resources on infrastructure development, he said, adding it would also prove to be a state-of-the-art project. He said the project would be completed expeditiously in Lahore besides other major cities of the province. The 20 bottlenecks identified by the City Traffic Police (CTP) and TEPA in the City, also mentioned in the Master Plan 2021, include Chowk Taxali, Chowk Chauburji, Chowk Istanbul, Chowk Davis Mall, Zafar Ali Road, Bhekewal Morr, Dubai Chowk, Kalima Chowk, Qainchi Amar Sidhu, Model Town Morr, Chowk Shalamar, Do Moria Pul, Moochi Gate, Minar-e-Pakistan (Azadi Chowk), Chowk Yateem Khana, Morr Samanabad, Scheme Morr, Qurtaba Chowk, Canal Bridge on Jail Road, Lakshami Chowk and Regal Chowk.
