Lahore: New system of cleanliness for walled city
In order to cater to the dire need for cleanliness in the walled city, a specialized new system for Solid Waste Management has been launched under the Sustainable Development of the Walled City of Lahore project. In the first phase, the new system has been implemented in the pilot area on the Royal Trail (Delhi Gate).
Addressing the project launching ceremony, the SDWCL project director general, Orya Maqbol Jan Abbasi, said the new system would work separately from the existing CDGL waste management. He said, under the new system, the area would be cleaned constantly from 6am in the morning to 10pm at night by two dedicated teams of sanitary workers. The sanitary workers would be dressed in separate uniforms and they would be provided with all the required equipment for proper cleaning. He said specially-designed steel waste baskets had been installed outside each house in the streets and garbage drums had been placed on main trail in the Dehli Gate area. Each household is provided with polythene garbage bags to collect their daily garbage and these bags are collected on daily basis, he said. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=189338 |
