ERRA completes 5,390 projects in quake-hit areas

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) with the cooperation of Government of Pakistan and donors has completed 5,390 projects in areas devastated by the October 8, 2005 earthquake, said a press release issued here on Tuesday. This was disclosed at a meeting held here to review progress made by the Authority on projects in the affected areas, it added. ERRA Deputy Chairman Lt Gen Sajjad Akram chaired the meeting. Representatives of JICA, ADB, European Commission (EC), WHO, USAID, DFID and Embassy of Japan as well as high ranking officials of ERRA were present on the occasion. The participants were informed that 4,153 projects were presently underway in the areas. Unlike the past, this year, ERRA has made significant headway and built 436,486 seismically resistant houses hence achieving 96 percent success, it
