Police to maintain complete records of rented property
* CCPO says criminals find hideouts in city before committing crimes Staff Report LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Pervez Rathore on Thursday directed police to take measures to maintain complete records of rented property in their respective areas. According to a press release, he said that it was the responsibility of landlords and property dealers to submit performa and necessary documentation to the respective police stations within 48 hours of the signing of a rent agreement. He said that if the relevant documents were not submitted at the police station, and the tenant was involved in any crime or illegal activity, legal action would be taken against the landlord responsible. He also said that copies of identity cards of the landlord, tenant and witnesses should be provided, adding that the government had directed the national database and registration authority (NADRA) to set up a database in this regard. Hideout: Rathore pointed out that criminals usually find a hideout before committing a crime, adding that such elements would be identified easily by maintaining a watchful eye. He said that owners of guesthouses and hotels should not rent out rooms without seeing an original identity card and keeping a copy of it for their record. He said that action would be taken against property dealers, hotel owners as well as station house officers, who failed to maintain an up-to-date record. The CCPO said that the co-operation of citizens was essential to curb crime and incidents of terrorism. People should realise that the communication of seemingly insignificant information could help prevent incidents of major crime, he added. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...008_pg7_31 |
