Traffic police planning major revamp

LAHORE: The City Traffic Police has prepared proposals to revamp the working of traffic wardens, which envisions – among other things – the relegation of most female wardens to desk-jobs, Daily Times learnt on Friday. According to Lahore Traffic Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tariq Masood Yasin the transfers and postings of female wardens would be recommended by a committee consisting of three to five members.

Sectors: The Lahore Traffic Police has also decided to divide Lahore into 33 sectors of A and B categories while a new policy would be formulated for transfers and postings of male traffic wardens. It was also decided to create two new posts of OSIs in the offices of City Division and Sadar Division superintendents of police (SP). According to sources, DIG Yasin directed Senior Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Azhar Akram to formulate a policy for transfers and postings in the City Traffic Police. City Traffic Division SP Sarfaraz Khan Virk and Sadar Traffic Division SP Imtiazur Rehman had recommended that Lahore be divided into two categories when there was any VVIP and VIP movement in the city. In the City and Sadar divisions, four and six sectors have been included in the A category respectively, which included Mall 1, Mall 2, Garhi Shahu, Mughalpura, Khayaban-e-Jinnah, Defence, Gulberg, Old Airport and New Airport. In both the divisions, 23 sectors have been included in the B category as well. According to sources, the wardens who worked in the sectors of the A category would be transferred to the B category after 4 months and they would work there for a year. It was also decided that more traffic wardens would be deployed in the A category compared to the B category. It was observed that their was a shortage of 150 traffic wardens in the City Division and duty officers (DO) would be appointed in the traffic sector for a period of six months. farhan ali khan
