Senate body directs cancellation of Railways leased land

ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Railways termed the lease of Railways land in Rawalpindi not on merit and directed the department to cancel the lease, take action against the responsible and present a report before the committee.

The meeting of the Standing Committee on Railways was held here under the Chairmanship of Senator Gul Naseeb. The meeting discussed the report on leasing of railway land at Bank Road, Rawalpindi, which resulted in huge financial loss.

The Committee further advised that in future the Railways should make joint venture on Railways land instead of leasing/selling of land. The Committee constituted a five-member Sub-Committee, which will look into all deals the Railways made during the past 10 years. The Committee also visited the Karachi Cantt Railway station and the Railway Loco Shed workshop.
