Formation of national govt ruled out
ISLAMABAD – Federal Government Wednesday ruled out formation of national government in the country, saying that political forces should refrain from undue political indulgence.
“There should be maximum concentration on providing relief to the flood victims as it is need of the hour,” said Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari while addressing a press conference held at PID. When asked about MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s statement, Samsam said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would never accept any extra-constitutional action, as it believed in the supremacy of the constitution. Everybody was shocked at his statement as the democratic process had been restored after a long struggle. Talking about the road network situation, he said that all motorways and Great Trunk Road (N-5) are open for all types of traffic. Indus Highway (N-55) is open for traffic except near Sehwan Sharif where a portion of road has submerged with the floodwater, he added. Due to unprecedented situation caused due to floods in the country, he said Pakistan, despite being world’s largest tents producer, has asked Turkey and other tent producing countries to supply the commodity. Each and every affected family would be provided tents on time. About the flood situation, he said that so far 1,589 deaths had been confirmed with 2,344 persons who got injured as a result of the natural calamity. He said that according to estimates available so far, 1236,257 houses had also been damaged in the floods. He added that so far 3417,790 blankets, 5923.16 tonnes of food items, 3732 mosquito nets, 182,133 tents, 136006 Tarpals, and 68,075 plastic mats had been provided to the flood IDPs. Referring to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund, he said that Rs 1.856 billion had been received in the fund. |
