CM links modern technology with rapid progress
Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that promotion of modern technology is essential for rapid development of the country.
He was addressing a ceremony held for signing a memorandum of understanding between the Technical Education and Vocational Authority (Tevta) and Microsoft on Sunday for promotion of information technology in the province. Tevta Chairman Saeed Ahmed Alvi and Country Head of Microsoft Kamal Ahmed signed the document under which IT academies would be established in the province and Microsoft would be responsible for their curriculum, conduct of examination as well as teachersí training. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that China, Turkey and other countries owed their progress to modern technology and it could also help Pakistan achieve the goal of development. He said Microsoft was a leading company of the world and had proved its worth in the IT sector, adding that the Punjab government had signed a comprehensive agreement with Microsoft last year for the promotion of information technology. He said the new agreement between Tevta and Microsoft regarding establishment of IT academies would leave a positive impact on IT sector. The chief minister said that thousands of students were imparted vocational training every year in Tevta institutions and setting up of IT academies would be of great benefit for education and training of the youth. He said the agreement would help provide international standard training to the youth which would enable them to seek jobs anywhere in the world. He said the MoU would be given the shape of an agreement by October 31 and Tevta should spare no effort in giving a practical form to the agreement. Saeed Ahmad Alvi said establishment of IT academies would enable Tevta provide IT services which would completely change its culture. He said the academies would be established by June 2011. He said on the instructions of the chief minister Punjab, Tevta had been made an active and vibrant institution. The chairman Punjab Information Technology Board and other officers concerned were also present. |
