Gilani felicitates new Korean PM
ISLAMABAD - As South Korea pins its hopes on new PM Kim Hwang Sik, Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Monday that Republic of Korea would continue to make rapid progress and play its role to bring peace and stability in the region under the sagacious leadership of the new Korean Premier.
“It gives me great pleasure to convey to Your Excellency my heartiest felicitations on your assumption of the office of Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea. I am sure that under your sagacious leadership the Republic of Korea would continue to make rapid progress and play its role for peace and stability in the region,” Gilani said in a felicitation message sent to the Prime Minister of Republic of Korea on Monday. Gilani, in the same letter, did not forget to mention the contribution and donations given by the people and government of Republic of Korea to Pakistan in the aftermath of catastrophic floods in Pakistan recently. “I would like to thank the Government and the people of the Republic of Korea for their generous donations, in cash and kind, for the flood victims in Pakistan,” stated the Prime Minister Gilani in a written message. “We are confident that our friendly relations would be further strengthened in the days and years ahead. I look forward to working with Your Excellency to enhance the cooperative and cordial relations that so happily exist between our two countries”, the Premier said. Gilani expressed his desire to meet new Korean Prime Minister in the forthcoming G-20 Summit to be held in Seoul. Kim Hwang-sik took charge of office as the Lee Myung-bak administration’s third prime minister this month and pledged to dedicate himself to the president’s campaign to build a “fair, warm and first-rate” country. According to media reports, Kim’s swearing in came after the National Assembly of Republic of Korea approved his nomination as new prime minister in a plenary vote at the start of this month. The Assembly passed the motion on the confirmation of Kim as prime minister by a vote of 169 to 71 with four abstentions. A total of 244 lawmakers took part in the secret full floor vote, stated the media reports. |
