Civilian N-technology discussed at Washington
WASHINGTON: The United States and Pakistan have also discussed the possibility of providing Islamabad civilian nuclear technology for meeting the country’s energy needs but no decisions have been taken yet, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday.
Addressing a joint news conference with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the end of three-day strategic talks, she also said that Pakistan’s place on the talks for a future set-up in Afghanistan was also discussed. “We had a very long discussion on Afghanistan,” she added. Referring to media reports that the US had stopped its assistance to some Pakistani military units allegedly involved in human rights violations, she said a US law required the administration to take such allegations very seriously “and we follow the law”. Mr Qureshi assured her that Pakistan too took such allegations seriously. A probe has been ordered “and actions will be taken against those found guilty”. |
