Sunni Ulema demanded ban on Raiwind moot: Khosa
LAHORE: Senior Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister Zulfiqar Ali Khosa said the government had accepted all demands of Sunni Ulema and there was no justification for a ‘long march.’

Addressing a press conference at 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Khosa said in the present security situation, Ulema had been asked not to arrange a gathering which could provide an opportunity to terrorists to strike. “The government will protect life and property of the masses, however, no unlawful activity can be allowed. In case of lawlessness, the law will take its own course,” he added.

He said on demand of Ulema, installation of maximum walk-through gates and opening of passages were being ensured for devotees at Data Data and other shrines. “Besides, orders have also been issued for removal of members of banned organisations from district peace committees,” he added. He said instructions had been issued to the administration to check graffiti, confiscation of objectionable literature and books while the school department was directed to consider declaration of Arabic as compulsory subject along with English up to class 6. He said one of their demands was to stop the Raiwind congregation but the government could not hinder activities of any sect. On punishment to criminals involved in terrorism, he said cases against them were in courts and relevant laws were also being reviewed.
