‘Taseer desecrated Islam’s basic spirit, was a blasphemer’

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD - According to the Tahafuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Mahaz (TNRM), Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer desecrated the basic spirit of Islam and turned a blasphemer himself when he showed support for Asia Bibi and called the blasphemy law ‘a black law’.
A meeting of the TNRM, chaired by Allama Raza-e-Mustafa, on Wednesday said by virtue of that he succumbed to a true lover of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali, Pir Atherul Qadri and Mufti Haseeb were also present.
The TNRM leaders warned that people who were commenting on the matter should “take care of their faith so that they do not lose it”. The meeting fully endorsed a fatwa by the Jamaat-e-Ahlesunnat Pakistan asking the “faithful” to avoid attending Taseer’s funeral.
Meanwhile, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) will meet in Rawalpindi on Friday to discuss Taseer’s murder and the situation arising out of the incident.
SIC’s Haji Hanif Tayyab told Pakistan Today that the council would meet under the chairmanship of MNA Sahibzada Fazl Karim to discuss the one-point agenda which includes assassination of the Punjab governor and whether to morally support Taseer’s murderer, Mumtaz Qadri, or not. However, he said Qadri was the Ghazi Ilm Din of this century.
