Fort Road Food Street opens today
LAHORE - The City District Government Lahore gears up for the inauguration of the Fort Road Food Street today (Saturday) after the deadline was extending thrice, to the delight of the lahorites. According to sources, the food street would be inaugurated by Hamza Shahbaz. The Fort Road Food Street is a 1.4-kilometre, V-shaped street with around 25 buildings that have been restored in lively colours, with the services of renowned architects and fine arts experts. The food street is located next to the Badshahi Mosque, hosting eateries that represent the culture of Lahore. The city dwellers believe that the food street would add to the appeal of the city due to its location. Though all kinds of food would be available at the street, Indian cuisine would be the highlight.
Maryam Khan, a student, said that the food street would be a fine addition to the cultural heritage of the city. She said, “There were very few places where one could take relatives who visit the city from abroad. The food street would be one of the top options now.” Talking to Pakistan Today, Fort Road Food Street Chairman Habib Khan said that all arrangements had been done and the food street was ready for launch. “All food outlets are functional and the buildings are being revisited for the finishing touches,” said Habib. He said that the food street would be one of the most attractive tourist spot of the provincial metropolis. Earlier, the inauguration date for the food street was announced to be November 19, which was changed to December 31. The delay was said to be made due to power and gas outages, which forced the project to cross the two deadlines. |
