LDA seeks outside help for parking plazas
LAHORE – The Lahore Development Authority has proposed over a dozen new development projects for the provincial capital including construction of Moon Market Parking Plaza by generating funds from its own resources and other nine out of 10 parking plazas in partnership with the private sector, an insider informed this scribe on Monday.
Moreover, he said mostly ongoing projects were likely to be completed during the current fiscal year for which the authorities allocated billions of rupees with releasing funds for some important projects which were likely to be started by the end of this month or first week of February. The source further said the higher authority also decided to establish a directorate for monitoring the status of development works in the private housing schemes, approved by LDA, for ensuring speedy completion of these works for the convenience of the allottees. “The LDA will arrange funding for the under-construction commercial-cum car parking plaza at Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town, through LDA’s own sources by carrying out the sale of 67 shops in the plaza simultaneously to earn more revenue for this purpose”, the source added. He said the provincial government although promised to provide funds for the construction of such parking plazas but later government back out of its promise and refused to provide funds for this purpose, resultantly the LDA had to defer the construction of such parking plazas for indefinite period. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Liberty parking plaza, had promised the citizens that his government would construct 10 more parking plazas for the convenience of the Lahorites. “Now the LDA is going to restart work on such under-construction parking plaza by the end of this month or first week of February and the authorities will have to generate funds for the construction of such plaza from its own resources as per direction of the provincial govt,” he said adding the department was also planning to start work on other nine proposed parking plazas in partnership with the private sector. The LDA authorities have also gave a go ahead for the construction of pedestrian overhead bridge at Moulana Shoukat Ali Road in front of Jinnah Hospital at a cost of Rs 37.226 million. It also approved the proposal for construction of a slip road connecting Bahawalpur Road with Lytton Road at Qartaba Chowk besides carrying out rehabilitation of Maulana Shabbir Usmani Road from ‘Y’ junction New Garden Town to Faisal Town roundabout at a cost of Rs 136.88 million. The governing body of CDGL, in it’s meeting, held a couple of weeks ago also approved the revised estimates for improvement and rehabilitation of Ferozepur Road from Qartaba Chowk to Khaira Distributory, Chungi Amer Sidhu, at a cost of Rs 172.791 million. Besides construction of Ghazi Road T-Junction and provision of entry/exist ramps from Qainchi Intersection to Khaira Distributory, remodeling of General Hospital Intersection and development of parking from Qainchi Junction to Khaira Distributory will be carried out under this project. The authorities also allowed construction of sports club at 108-Ravi Road at a cost of Rs 58.226 million. It will provide recreational and sports facilities to the public. Initially, the CDGL and LDA authorities allotted two chunks of land to the health department for setting up two hospitals in the City. |
