Sindh govt to allot 5,000 plots to people of Lyari
The Sindh government has decided to allot 5,000 plots to the people of Lyari in the Hawkesbay Housing Scheme. This decision was taken in a meeting at the Chief Minister House on Friday which was chaired by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. Sources said that the decision had been taken to revive a project that was initiated 20 years ago by former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in her second tenure in 1995. The project was, however, shelved by the Nawaz Sharif government. Officials confirmed that the Sindh government had decided to pay Rs320 million to the Lyari Development Authority (LDA) as development charges for these plots. President Asif Ali Zardari had directed the provincial government to fulfil the dream of the late party chairperson Benazir Bhutto who wanted to allot these plots to the poor people free of cost. The sources said that Zardari and Bilawal would hand over the documents of the plots to the people. They added that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was taking keen interest in the development of Lyari and PPP leader Awais Muzzaffar was personally monitoring such uplift projects for which the government had provided two billion rupees. |
