PM orders completion of formalities for street lights in 15 days
ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday directed the finance minister and the Planning Commission deputy chairman to complete the codal formalities within 15 days for installation of light emitting diodes (LED) street lights in the capital as a cost-effective measure. The prime minister issued these instructions during a presentation by the Capital Development Authority on installation of LED lights in the capital, at the Prime Minister House here. The CDA has taken up this project which is part of its drive for energy efficiency and conservation in Islamabad. The CDA chairman apprised the meeting that the project will be completed within six months after its approval by the Planning Commission. He said the electricity bill of the CDA’s street lights will decrease from Rs 1.6 billion per annum to only Rs 500 million, thus reducing the expenditure by more than half. The reduced requirement will lead to the availability of the electricity to be added to the national grid, the CDA chairman added. Prime Minister’s Task Force on CDA Chairman Faisal Sakhi Butt said the CDA will finance the whole project from its own resources and by obtaining export credit finance from Italy which will be paid from the resultant savings from the electricity bill. |
