Work on new Ravi bridge soon: CM
LAHORE : CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that after the launching of the Metro bus service, inconvenience of the citizens will change into permanent relief while the critics will also be silenced.

He said the project would be a unique example of speed, transparency and standard. He said that while E-ticketing system would ensure charging of genuine fare, it would also introduce a modern transport culture. He said the poor had equal rights over resources and by spending billions on welfare projects, the Punjab government was upholding their rights. He was presiding over a meeting to review Metro bus project here on Sunday.

Shahbaz said every effort should be made for speedy completion of the project while every task should be completed within the timeframe at any cost. He said that no compromise would be made on the quality of the project and those responsible would not be spared in case of any complaint. Expressing dissatisfaction with the pace of work on the route of metro bus from Qaddafi Stadium to Ichhra, the CM said that work pace should be accelerated and completed within the stipulated period. He said Kalma Chowk was being made signal-free through construction of underpasses.

The chief minister said the foundation stone of the new bridge over the River Ravi would soon be laid and it would also be a masterpiece of architecture. He directed the authorities that the flow of traffic at Chungi Amarsidhu and Azadi Chowk should be improved and the number of pedestrian bridges. He said the contractors working on metro bus project should continue working with commitment for the early completion of the project.

corruption: Shahbaz Sharif has said that corruption has weakened foundations of the country and all records of corruption have been broken during the tenure of the inefficient federal rulers. He said the societies governed by corrupt rulers were destroyed, adding that corruption was a result of bad governance. In a message on the International Anti-Corruption Day, Shahbaz said the recent report of Transparency International had exposed the record corruption of the federal government. He said it was lamentable that Pakistan had become 33rd most corrupt country of the world in the tenure of the incompetent federal rulers. He said that on the one hand, the federal rulers were looting national resources ruthlessly while on the other hand they were showing criminal negligence towards solution to people’s problems which was highly shameful. He said the Punjab government had promoted transparency and merit at every level and it was free from corruption. He challenged that he would quit politics if corruption of even a single penny was proved in the projects of Punjab. He said the masses would totally reject the corrupt rulers in the forthcoming general elections and an honest leadership would come forward.

hockey team: Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated the national hockey team on defeating India and winning a bronze medal in the Champions Trophy. He termed the success against India the result of team work and expressed hope that the series of victories of the hockey team would continue in future as well.
