CDA yet to start maintenance work on damaged roads
ISLAMABAD: No repair or maintenance work has been started by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on roads damaged during the monsoon rains. Different roads had been damaged in the form of potholes and craters because of the rains, which not only damages vehicles but also puts the lives of motorists and residents at risk. The service road from Sector I10 to 7-Up Chowk, which is used by heavy traffic for the Industrial Area, is in a dilapidated condition, with potholes, craters and ruts. “The entire road, especially near the Islamabad Railway Station and I10/3 Industrial Area, is in a bad shape and needs urgent repairs,” said Talha Nadeem, a resident of I10/2. He said the road turns into a pond during rain. Drivers cannot see the potholes and craters, resultantly they damage their vehicles, he added. Similarly, link road from Sabzi Mandi to NDC is also in a deteriorated condition and requires urgent maintenance work. A taxi driver said big potholes had emerged in the middle of the service road at various places from I9 Police Station to H9 College and further up to nurseries, but the CDA staff seems unconcerned. He pointed out that the under-construction Kashmir Highway from Peshawar Morr to Golra Morr should also be completed on urgent basis. When contacted, an official of the department concerned said the maintenance of capital’s roads was being carried out on regular basis. The repair and maintenance work of the damaged roads would be completed at the earliest, he added. |
