KPT to set up desalination plants
KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has planned to set up desalination plants at Manora, Keamari oil installation area and TPX at an estimated cost of Rs300 million in order to meet water requirements for residential areas and ships calling at the port.
The three desalination plants are being set up under the directive of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. Each plant would be capable of producing 200,000 imperial gallons per day, which would meet clean drinking water requirements of the KPT. Under phase-1, a plant at Manora Island would be set up for which tenders were invited and opened on January 12. Work on it would commence after fulfillment of formalities by March and would be completed in December this year. The desalination plants for the Keamari oil installation area and TPX would be set up in the next phase. Tenders for hydro-geological investigation for ascertaining water quality and quantity in these areas are under process and would be awarded shortly. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=157659 |
