Prince Harry’s ‘Paki friend’ a war hero
LAHORE: The family of Pakistan Army Captain Ahmed Raza Khan, Prince Harry’s fellow at Sandhurst, said Khan was shot in the shoulder during a Taliban ambush in the Tribal Areas but he fought them off for an hour, the Telegraph reported on Monday.
It said the prince’s fellow graduate was ambushed near the Afghanistan border, as 17 soldiers were killed and another 13 injured when a convoy of Captain Khan’s regiment was targeted with a roadside bomb in North Waziristan in July 2007. According to the paper, Captain Khan, who was in the passenger seat of an army car at the head of the convoy, was reportedly hit by a bullet, which passed clean through his shoulder. He was able to regroup however and rolled out of the vehicle to help his injured colleagues and then return fire for an hour before reinforcements arrived, it added. Bravery: The Telegraph reported that the army gave Khan a commendation for his bravery during the ambush. It quoted Khan’s first cousin, Sohail Sarwar (35), who lives in the family’s home village of Slaig as saying, “We are all very proud of him. After he was injured, he spent 15 days in an army hospital then he came back here to rest for a week. People came from all over the valley to see him and to hear his story.” According to the paper, Khan has reportedly forgiven Harry for the comments, where he called him ‘Paki’ in a video filmed while both were Sandhurst students. Prince Harry faces a disciplinary hearing this week over his remarks. daily times monitor http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_13 |
