‘Govt does not plan to extend CJP’s tenure’
Daily Times Monitor LAHORE: The government does not plan to extend the term of office of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Abdul Hameed Dogar, a private TV channel quoted Federal Law Secretary Agha Rafeeq as saying on Saturday. The channel quoted Rafeeq as saying, “Though Justice Sardar Raza Muhammad Khan is the senior-most judge after the incumbent chief justice, the decision about the next chief justice will be made by President Zardari.” Separately, a press release issued by the Law and Justice Division revealed that the president has extended the term of office of 10 judges of the Lahore High Court for a period of six months with effect from the date their present terms expire. The judges who have been granted extensions are: Justice Kazim Ali Malik, Justice Rana Zahid Mahmood, Justice Muhammad Ashraf Bhatti, Justice MA Zafar, Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi, Justice Hafiz Tariq Nasim, Justice Khalil Ahmed, Justice Syed Shaheen Masood Rizvi, Justice Malik Saeed Ejaz and Justice Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...2009_pg1_6 |
