Karachi: DHA residents demand increased vigilance on Valentine’s Day
The residents of Defence are going to urge the DHA administrator to make special arrangements to prevent mobile and vehicle snatching incidents on Valentine’s Day, said Association of Defence Residents Secretary, Asad Kizil.

The DHA administration keeps 90 per cent vigilance on the residents of Defence rather than catching criminals, claimed Kizil. ‘’We want the DHA to pay 90 per cent vigilance on criminal elements who deprive people of their valuables, he added. ‘’We are working with DHA, Sindh Police, Cantonment and residents for the vigilance in Defence, he said. ‘’ We are going to install cameras all around Defence to eradicate street and other crimes from the society. The Senate Standing Committee had invited us on Wednesday to share the problems of Defence, said Kizil.

He said that representatives of cantonment, Defence minister and other stakeholders attended the meeting chaired by Senator Nisar Memon. “I have put the issue of the rapist gang and other matters such as street crime before the committee.

However, on the other hand, it has been learnt that the police have not taken any special measure as yet to prevent incidents of mobile and vehicle snatching on Valentine’s Day. Sources in the police referring to the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) report issued last Saturday said that 11 automobiles, 19 motorbikes and 35 cellphones were taken away last Saturday in different parts of the city.

They said that Valentine’s Day will be on Saturday, and it is feared that bandits would target young boys and girls of school and colleges, who carry their expensive mobiles and goods with them. Sources added that girls could be special victims, as they accessorise themselves with expensive jewelry and other trappings.

Sources added that there is no specific area which is particularly vulnerable in Karachi for mobile and vehicle snatching, but it is anticipated that bandits would be eyeing posh localities, such as Defence and Clifton, for snatching and robbery purposes. They said that restaurants and recreational points would be the main target of the bandits. “We are aware that Valentine’s Day is coming and we are going to make security arrangements on this day,” said Town Police Officer (TPO) Clifton, Ishfaq Alam while talking to PPI.

“I cannot reveal whether I have received any special order from my superiors, neither can I share details of security arrangements we are going to make on the day,” he added.

Meanwhile, despite repeated calls, Karachi CCPO Wasim Ahmed could not be reached for comment.
