Sindh: ‘Reports of flaws in land distribution’: Revenue Minister
Sindh Revenue Minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo admitted that he has been receiving reports of flaws and irregularities in the Sindh government’s land distribution programme. He further said that he was planning to conduct an inquiry and take action against those involved.
He was addressing a conference on issues and options related to the Sindh government’s land distribution programme. The event, on Thursday, was organised by the Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI), in collaboration with Oxfam GB. The minister said he was also planning to conduct an inquiry into how and why revenue authorities had shown that less land than was actually available for distribution in various districts. Dharejo said that the land distributed among landless peasant women was not fit for cultivation and in many areas, influential people were trying to usurp the land granted to poor families. Experts and researchers, including Fatima Naqvi of Oxfam GB, PDI Director Sikander Brohi, researcher Dr Fatah Marri, Actionaid Senior Programme Officer Adam Malik and others also presented their papers at the event. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=175124 |
