Kayani in Russia to strengthen defence ties

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani reached Moscow on Sunday to hold talks with the Russian president, prime minister and military leadership. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, General Kayani’s one-day trip to Russia aimed at improving cooperation in defence and military fields of the two countries. Earlier, Lahore Corps Commander Lt Gen Ejaz Ahmed Bakhshi and other senior military officials saw the COAS off at the Lahore airport. According to military sources, Kayani would visit Russian military headquarters and meet the Russian defence minister, foreign minister and army chief. The visit is being given a lot of importance after President Zardari’s recent trip to Russia, where he met his Russian and Afghan counterparts. staff report/agencies
