‘Health certificates mandatory for haj pilgrims’

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has made it mandatory for pilgrims to Makkah to provide a health certificate as part of the country's efforts to battle swine flu, Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Al-Merghalani said on Wednesday. He said the government had also decided to ban adults over 65 and children under 12, and required pilgrims to show proof they had received flu shots at home. There has been much discussion in the Muslim world about how to prevent the spread of swine flu during haj and umra. Al-Merghalani said the government would start implementing the rules once top Saudi authorities approved them. ap
