Karachi: Keamari town to have a 300-bed hospital
The federal government has approved the establishment of a 300-bed hospital in Union Council (UC) Gabopat in Keamari Town, The News has learnt. The project is expected to cost Rs3 billion.
UC Gabopat Nazim Mubarak Sanghur informed The News that the feasibility report for the project has already been designed and a 40-acre piece of land has been identified near Mawach Goth on the RCD Highway. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is expected to lay the foundation stone for the project in January. Sanghur added that the hospital will be equipped with modern facilities and will function under the administration of the federal government. He said that the hospital will benefit suburban communities and parts of Balochistan. Meanwhile, Sanghur gave all credit for the approval of the hospital to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Abdul Qadir Patel, who had approached the party leadership and authorities concerned in Islamabad to establish the hospital. He said that apart from this, MNA Patel is also convening a meeting with local influential people and legislators from the area to identify other uplift schemes for the suburbs. Currently, there are 11 government-run dispensaries in UC Gabopat. None of them are either fully-equipped or functional. An activist from the area, Khuda Ganj Shad, told The News that political ignorance is the reason for this pathetic situation. Carelessness by certain town health officials, unavailability of medicines and other problems are also hindering in the revival of these health centers, he said. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=205189 |
