ISLAMABAD - Capital Development Authority (CDA) kicked off the yearlong Golden Jubilee celebrations of Islamabad city with prayers for peace, prosperity and solidarity of the country here on Friday in Faisal Mosque.
Chairman CDA Imtiaz Inayat Elahi spoke to the vast gathering of the residents of the capital city while Professor Sajid-ur-Rehman delivered Friday’s sermon. Fifty years ago, the then President Ayub Khan had decided to shift the federal capital from Karachi to the newly developed Islamabad. Chairman CDA said the Authority had decided to start the Golden Jubilee celebrations with solemn gathering for peace and prayers for solidarity and prosperity of the country. He said the residents of the capital city would make the yearlong celebrations a success with their active participation in various programmes in this connection. He said CDA would confer medals on prominent engineers, architects, scientists and CDA officials who played remarkable role in making the city green and more attractive. CDA Chairman vowed that the city would be made more beautiful and greener in coming days. Professor Sajid-ur-Rehman in his Friday sermon said that Pakistan was achieved in the name of Islam while Islamabad was also developed in the same name. He congratulated CDA for creating a beautiful city in once barren land. He said cities require years to develop, adding that it was responsibility of all the residents of Islamabad to keep their city green, beautiful and peaceful. He regretted that the nation could not achieve objectives of the creation of Pakistan due to the various conflicts developed after the independence of the country. He said there was no sectarian issue at the time of independence but later it grew to an extent that it put the national unity at stake. The event ended with prayer for lasting peace and unity as well as prosperity and solidarity of the country. Professor Sajid-ur-Rehman led the prayer |
