CDA to collect Rs2 billion fine
ISLAMABAD – Capital Development Authority (CDA) is expecting to generate more than Rs2 billion fine from regularisation of buildings with unapproved additional storeys.
A senior official of the Authority, Saturday, confided to TheNation that the civic body had decided to regularise commercial and residential buildings having additional storeys without the approval of CDA. He informed that a fresh survey of all such buildings had been carried out recently on the basis of which an advertisement would soon be given in newspapers. The official did not share the findings of the survey, however, he said that CDA laws provided for granting approval to such violations subject to fine, which he said would be collected according to the market value of each building. He said the survey suggested the Authority could generate an amount of Rs2 to Rs2.5 billion from the fine collected for regularisation of buildings with additional unapproved storeys. He said that the drive would kick off during the next week while it was expected to complete within next two or three months. He further said that the Authority was not in a position to demolish additional storeys due to a number of associated complications. Therefore, he said, it resorted to regularise such buildings subject to handsome fines within the provisions of the building bylaws of CDA. He further said that the expected revenue in billions of rupees was also a major driving force behind the decision in the wake of worse-ever financial crises in the Authority. The official further said that the decision was both in favour of the civic agency as well as the owners of the buildings having additional unapproved storeys. |
