New plan for Capital: Security zone extended up to entry points

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have devised a new and more elaborate security plan for both rural and urban areas of the capital.

Under this plan, checking of vehicles and people would be made at various entry and exit points of the city while certain areas would be cordoned off at various timings. A total of 67 points have been identified to conduct checking while 21 halting points have also been set up.

These certain points would cover all the sectors and sub-sectors of Islamabad and cops would perform duties round the clock to avert any untoward incident.

In addition to setting up 21 halting points, the existing security zone would be extended up to Rawat Toll Plaza, Fateh Jhang Morr and Satra Meel.

The new security plan was announced in a high-level meeting that was attended among others by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Bani Ameen, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SP Industrial area Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani, DSP Rescue 15 Mussarat Ali Khan and DSP Security Altaz Aziz Khattak.

The SSP briefed the DIG about the new security plan. He said security zone had been extended which would now include sector G-13, Fateh Jang Road, Margallah Hills, Rawat Toll Plaza, and Satrra Meel area.

A total of 14 vehicles, 34 motorbikes and seven commandos from Rescue 15 would also be included for implementing this security plan. The purpose to establish various checking points is to curb crime, especially robberies and auto-theft incidents, the SSP said.

The SSP said the police stations had been provided vehicles and Eagle Squads had been assigned the security duties. Out of 67 checking points, 27 have been identified in the City Area, 20 in Saddar Area, 13 in Industrial Area and seven in Rural Area, he added.

He said special meetings would be convened on fortnight basis to review the performance of the police deputed at these point.

The DIG directed all the police officials to implement this plan in letter and spirit.

During the meeting, crime situation both in urban and rural area was also discussed. During the deliberation, Islamabad police particularly reviewed that what parts of the day and which areas were more vulnerable to the thieves and car-jackers. The police decided to beef up the security of certain areas during specific hours of the day.

The plan also talks about the mechanism of coordination. The Islamabad SSP would ensure complete coordination among all SPs, SDPOs and SHOs for success of this plan. The progress report of this plan would be submitted to DIG for evaluation.
