Al-Fatah inferno contained
LAHORE: Valuables worth thousands of rupees were turned into ashes late on Friday as fire broke out on the second floor of Al Fatah store in Y Block, Defence. The ground and second floor of the three-storey plaza are utilised by the store, while the first floor consists of offices. The fire erupted at about 10:05pm in the warehouse on the second floor of the store that engulfed the entire room in a few minutes. Later, fire brigade and Rescue 15 team reached the spot, while the fire had engulfed the entire second floor. Rescue activities were immediately started and the firefighters managed to control the situation soon. A firefighter said it seemed the fire had erupted due to an electric short circuit, however, the actual reason is yet to be determined. According to the firefighters, goods worth thousands of rupees were destroyed, while no casualties were reported. Sheikh Irfan, the Al Fatah owner, said, “It seems the fire broke out due to an electric short circuit.” Commenting on the loss, he said, “The loss will be established after the fire has been completely put out, however, the warehouse has been completely gutted and the third floor partially damaged.” On February 13, 2004, another branch of Al Fatah store, located in Liberty Market, was also gutted. staff report
