Protest in Pindi against demolishing building
RAWALPINDI: A protest demonstration was held on Monday at Benazir Bhutto (BB) Road against price hike, loadshedding and demolition of the office of Housing and Works.
Large number of employees of Housing and Works, PWD, Zonal Association of WAPDA and All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) participated in the demonstration. The protestors, holding banners, posters and placards inscribed with demands, blocked BB Road due to which the worst traffic mess was witnessed. Chanting slogans, they marched from Housing Department to Moti Mahal Chowk. Addressing the protestors, leaders and office bearers of participating unions including Akram Bunda, Muhammad Riaz Bhatti, Safdar Ali, Rana Adnan Akbar, Malik Laiqat Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Raja Abdul Rauf, Bashir Ahmed and Mehboob Butt demanded the government announces enhancement in their salaries and allowances by 100 percent. They also warned the government that they would not tolerate demolishing of office of House and Works in Rawalpindi. They said as a matter of fact a group of land grabbers backed by some influential persons wanted to grab the land for commercial purposes and build a market there. They warned that they would pay every price for saving the building. They vowed they would extend their protest to entire Punjab in case their demands were not met. |
