CDA to take up Chirah Dam issue with Punjab government
Islamabad
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take up the matter of Chirah Dam water project with the Punjab government for its early launch to meet the future water requirements. CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz issued these directives to Member Engineering Sanaullah Aman during a meeting held to chalk out a strategy to avert water shortage in Islamabad during summer. The CDA chairman directed the Security and Enforcement directorates for coordinated efforts with the Water Management Wing to take firm action against illegal water supply connections and launch a campaign in this regard. He urged the concerned directorates to frame byelaws with the help of the CDA Law Wing, which would be promulgated to check illegal water connections in the city. He took serious notice of severe water shortage in I sectors directing the officials to adjust timing of tube wells in view of electricity loadshedding. He said that the recent rain spells have come as a blessing, which increased the water level in Simly and Khanpur dams. He said that the CDA should take effective measures for proper use of water to avoid crisis before monsoon rains. Sanaullah Aman told the CDA chairman that the water level in Simly Dam rose to 2,311 feet with increase of 33 feet and in Khanpur Dam rose to 1,980 feet with increase of 46 feet due to recent rains in the region. The CDA would ensure regular water supply to the resident of the federal capital and take effective and concrete measures to cope with the shortage of water in summer. The CDA chairman directed the officers of concerned directorates to take effective measures for uninterrupted supply of water from Khanpur and Simly dams. He urged the concerned departments for necessary repair and maintenance of water tankers, tube wells and water filtration plants. |
