Magsi urges to increase import, export activities in Gawadar port
QUETTA, May 29 (APP) : Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi on Thursday urged to increase import and export activities from Gawadar port in order to make the port functional. Addressing the meeting of Gawadar Coordination and Implementation Committee in Gawadar port city, the Governor directed the concerned officials to provide maximum incentives to traders and businessmen for the purpose of making the port functional. He urged to import wheat and fertilizer through Gawadar port and supply to other parts of the country. The import will not only make the port functional, but it will also promote transportation, hotel and other industries. Besides, it will strengthen the meaningful linkages between Balochistan and other parts of the country. The participants of the meeting reviewed the pace of implementation of Gawadar Master Plan. The participants of the meeting were informed that PC-I of Gawadar oil city and free trade zone had been prepared. Representatives of the federal government, Balochistan minister Hamal Kalmati, MPA Jaffar Mandokhel, district nazim Gawadar Abdul Ghafoor Kalmati and DCO Gawadar Nur-ul-Amin Mengal attended the meeting. Earlier, Chairman Gwadar Port Authority, Admiral General Ehsan Saeed briefed the Governor about the port. He said the first phase construction of the port 600 meter long had been completed while its second phase 900 meters long will be constructed. He informed the Governor that the economic activities had been increased after the first cargo ship carrying 63000 tons of wheat from Canada anchored off in Gawadar port in March 2008. The Governor hailed the project and said the government was making all-out efforts for making the port functional as it will bring economic prosperity in the country. http://www.app.com.pk/en_/index.php?opti...5&Itemid=2 |
